I uninstalled McAFee VirusScan Enterprise Edition about 10 years ago when I first started using Microsoft Defender's predecessor on Windows 7. I have search my registry thoroughly and any McAfee remnants have been deleted. I have scanned my whole system and there is no other references to McAfee but the upgrade still does not install.
My PC woke up from sleep on its own. When I signed in, there was a popup from McAfee. I discovered that it had just been installed at the precise time my PC was awakened.
