Guest Room Essentials

Having company this weekend? Take a cue from professional decorator, Kelly Edwards, as she turns a plain ol' guest room into one that is comfortable, relaxing and functional. A quick and easy way to convert an extra space into a comfortable guest room is to have functional furniture that can both hide your belongings and make your guest feel at home.  Here are some suggestions.

Five simple tips are guaranteed to make your friends or relatives feel right at home:
1. Hide your personal clutter.
Flip up storage cubbies, and cover the top.  Your guest can enjoy side tables, and your belongings are covered.

2. Include a luggage rack and serving tray.
Cover a luggage rack with an upside-down serving tray.  This makes for a functional bed bench, but when separated, becomes a serving tray and a luggage rack  both handy items for your guest.

3. Add a full-length mirror.
Take your existing bookcase, add some wheels to the bottom of it, and attach a mirror to the back.  A simple rotation of your bookcase is now a full-length mirror for your guest.

4. Include plenty of storage
Place some bins within your trunk.  Before your guest arrives, take out the bins and fill the trunk with sheets, towels, and any other items that would make your guest feel at home.

5. Offer additional pillows and blankets.
A duvet cover for your comforter is a quick and easy way to freshen up a room.

Greeting guests with a warm and welcoming space can be done without too much time or money. Just remember, it's the personal touches that will please your company -- and we all know that happy guests mean a happier weekend for both of you!
