The holidays are a time for giving thanks, spending time with your family, and joyfulness. However, if you're at a party and the host does something that irks you, that cheeriness just may subside a little. Awkwardness is never fun, especially when you're trying to relax and enjoy yourself at a holiday party.
So if you plan on hosting a joyful event this year, be sure to make sure your guests feel comfortable. We've put together a list of things that hosts do that might make their guests feel uneasy. You may have done a few of these things in the past, but this year you'll be ready! Steer clear of these and everyone will have a great time.

Not Setting Timeframes: Make sure you set clear timetables for your eating and gift opening plans.

Choosing an Uncomfortable Theme: It's great that you like to throw Hawaiian luau parties. However, throwing them over the holidays may make some people feel uneasy. Pressuring your guests to wear something specific also may make them uncomfortable. Who wants to wear a short sleeved Hawaiian shirt in the middle of winter anyway?

Drinking Too Much Alcohol: This is a no brainer. It's your party and your home. You're the one that has to say goodbye to everyone in attendance. Do yourself a favor and drink sparingly.

Don't Invite All Strangers To a Party: No one wants to stand around a party and not feel comfortable conversing with others. Invite people who know each other, or who they are familiar with. If you do invite all strangers, be sure to provide plenty of alcohol!

Too Much PDA: Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum. Sure, hand holding and hugging are fine, but it can make others around you uncomfortable when done excessively.

Don’t Scold Guests: You might get a little upset with your child for forgetting to put a coaster under their glass, but try to stray away from this with guests. If house policy is to remove your shoes when you enter the house and your guests are still wearing their shoes, try to overlook it or patiently introduce it to them.
