Things You Shouldn't Do When Taking Care of Your Christmas Tree

Trim and groom it

Before taking it home, make sure theres been a fresh cut to the bottom of the tree.  Also, know what your space can fit before picking out a tree so that you don't find yourself trying to trim it in the house.

Forget to water it

Sometimes it's hard to remember to water the household plants.  Your Christmas tree is no mere plant, it is a full grown tree!  If you're used to having a live tree you'll know they soak up so much water daily.  Don't let your tree go thirsty by forgetting to water it.

Allow it to lean

If when putting up your tree it seems to be leaning or crooked, don't leave it that way. The best time to fix a leaning tree is immediately after putting it up.  Once there are ornaments and lights involved, this task can get very tricky.

Allow shed pine needles to gather

Be sure to clean up fallen pine needles.  They dry out quickly, and can be very painful to step on!

Toss it in the dumpster

There are proper ways to dispose of your tree.  Find where in your neighborhood there are dropoff spots, and throw them away with the rest of the environmental waste.

Place it near a heat source

Hot things like space heaters, furnaces, and television monitors that give off heat will dry out your tree. Of course, they can also help start a fire if placed too closely.

Add chemicals or plant food to the water

Studies show just using plain tap water if best for your tree's health.

Lean on your Tree

Although it may seem sturdy, it is no longer planted in the ground. Avoid putting any of your weight on your tree.
