Things To Clean Before the In-Laws Come Over

1. Spare Room

Of course the number one priority when your in-laws or any guest is coming to stay, is the spare bedroom.  This spot in the house should take top priority! You want the room where they are staying to be spotless since there's no telling what nook or cranny they'll end up looking inside.

2. Oven

It's the holidays, so inevitably, your mother-in-law will most likely want to offer a helping hand in the kitchen. Oven cleaning is a task we all put off, but when it's time to cook a bird in there for hours on end, its time to stop putting it off!

3. Pet Hair

Pet hair, even in small amounts makes a home feel dirty.  It's also something that's easy to get accustomed to when it's the hair of your beloved Rusty, or Sparky.  However, to visitors, pet hair is very unappealing.  Plus you don't want guests having allergic coughing fits during holiday dinner.

4. Bathtub

Remember your bathroom is the room in your home where you go to clean yourself.  The bathroom and bathtub should be immaculate so your in-laws feel as comfortable there as they would in their own bathroom.

5. Fix Broken Locks

This one is simply to prevent any awkward situations.  Make sure the locks on your bathroom and bedrooms are all in working order.

6. Scrub out the fridge

Dump out that mayo that expired months ago and that container of who knows what that you've been too scared to open! Everyone is going to be in and out of your fridge all weekend long. Make sure the fridge is fully stocked with your company's favorites!

7. Mirrors

Windex all the mirrors in the house.  If everyone is feeling good about their reflections and the way they look, they'll spend less time worrying.

8. Bathroom Medicine Cabinets

This can be another spot of embarrassment in the house. We all have facial wax strips or nose hair clippers, but we don't always want our guests to know it! Make sure anything you wouldn't want to be seen is tucked away before the in-laws arrive.

9. Towels

Nothing is more comforting to a guest than a fresh set of clean towels.

10. Laundry

Lots of laundry piled up tells your guests you're not in control of yourhome. Go ahead and knock out all the backed up laundry before the guests arrive.

11. Make the bed

A freshly made bed makes the guest room inviting. Spend some time and energy cleaning the guest room and then make the bed with freshly cleaned linens.  Your in-laws will feel as though they walked into a 5 star hotel and will appreciate the extra effort to keep them comfortable.
