Nostalgic Christmas Presents

Easy-Bake Oven: Introduced in 1963, this toy contains a light bulb as a source of heat that cooks little cakes in approximately 10 minutes. Yummy! Can you believe that this toy is still a hit and is still on many kids' wishlists 50 years later?

Plastic Army Men: These little toy soldiers, believe it or not, used to provide hours of entertainment for little boys with active imaginations. You could even attach plastic parachutes and toss them over from high up!

Tinker Toys: This toy was created in 1914 and was designed after the inventor noticed children playing with pencils and spools of thread. They were originally made out of wood, but are now being manufactured in plastic.

Furby: This furry robot spoke "Furbish" and moved and blinked its eyes in response.  After retailing at firstfor $35, they  skyrocketed to $100 each and were sold out across the nation.

Jacks: Did you know another word for this game is Knucklebones? This is because the game's original pieces were the anklebone of sheep. Bah, good thing they decided to start using metal!

Barrel of Monkeys: This game was first invented in 1965 and was originally named "Barrel-o-Fun." However, after further inquiry, they realized the name was being used by other game companies. They decided that their game was "more fun than a barrel of monkeys" and changed the design of the S-hooks.

Legos: Legos were created in 1891 by a Danish carpenter and were originally wooden. He started a company and decided on the company name from the Danish express "leg godt," which means "play well" in English. They began manufacture of the current plastic variety in 1949.

Etch-a-Sketch: Invented by a French inventor, "L'Ecran Magique" or "Magic Screen" was what it was originally called. However, manufactured in Ohio, this iconic toy was introduced into the American market during the baby boom in the 60s after being purchased from a German toy fair.

Operation: Invented in 1965, this game has been inspiring future physicians for decades.

Barbie: Making her first appearance on March 9, 1959, Barbie changed the way many little girls played and interacted with one another. Barbie was named after the inventor's daughter, Barbara.

Game Boy: Created in 1989, the Game Boy was Nintendo's second handheld console. It sold almost 120 million units in its run!

Slinky: This toy was invited in the 1940s. In its introductory demonstration in a toy store, the entire inventory sold out in an hour and a half! The Slinky's original price was only a dollar! Nearly 300 million Slinkys were sold over 60 years!
