With the summer’s heat wave taking its toll, even air conditioning and fans aren’t always enough! Plus, the high utility bill rates during this sweltering season can be enough to make one melt. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), there’s hope! The solution to reduce heat gain by up to 77% is simply proper management of window treatments.

Now’s the time to use your shades, blinds and curtains to help save you money and from the heat. Awnings are best at reducing heat gain but draperies stay cooler in the summer than most window treatments. The DOE says drapery’s pleats and folds lose heat through convection thus often times drapes a great décor option. However, the effectiveness of draperies varies by fabric type and color.
