The Inquisitive Guest: Hamptons Classic

How Sofia Vergara, Jerry Seinfeld, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Steven Gambrel, and others decorate their tables.

On the final Sunday of the 38th annual Hamptons Classic horse show, riders faced a Grand Prix jumping course with towering fences and a sizable water feature for riders to expertly glide across. Meanwhile, VIPs from major corporations, horse farms, fashion houses, as well as a smattering of Old Guard socials sat back-to-back at dozens of long slender tables under the Grand Prix tent facing the course, and appeared to be equally competitive about decorating their tops.

To outdo one another, hosts such as Hermès, Michael Bloomberg, and Bridgehampton’s own Two Trees Farm broke out services of fine china and sterling silver, and an abundance of hydrangeas, sunflowers, and roses in every hue. Topping off the head-turning tables, the Inquisitive Guest also spotted a large silver pig, a vintage bronze equestrian weathervane, antique side tables, chairs covered in moss, and at the Marders Landscaping and Nursery table two mannequins with flowers spilling from their laps and hands—not to mention the formidable supply of bubbly and trays brimming with lobster rolls.
