Even though it may seem like an antiquated tradition, cultures around the world still appreciate and value the custom. So, now that you know gift giving is essential, you probably haven't thought about the gifts that you should avoid bringing for your host or hostess. The "Improvement" Gift: If your gift could possibly be construed as criticism, don't bring it! Especially diet cookbooks, or possibly even a normal cookbook. Your host may take it the wrong way.
