Hurricane Sandy has broken power lines, crippled transportation, and devastated homes. But there is one thing it hasn’t destroyed--the charity of the home. An abundance of extended hands has proven the spirit of this region in a desperate time of need. Homesessive’s thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy during this difficult time.
The outpouring of compassion from not only civil servants, but also neighbors and even strangers is overwhelming. We’ve witnessed the power of those who’ve opened their home to a neighbor in his or her time of need. Neighbors have been opening their doors for others, offering warm meals and hot showers. Additionally, those with electricity are making their power accessible to the public. Whether big or small, the size of the gestures is not what has mattered, but the effort to make one’s home a place for others has made this a remarkable event. Many have stood in the face of this disaster and risen above to celebrate unity and a little Halloween spirit along the way.
We applaud all those men and women serving around the clock saving lives and keeping the feeling of home alive. Recovering from the physical and emotional damage of this destruction will take time, but with the stories we’ve come across, we have hope for a bright future.
