When it comes to the presidents of the United States, certain facts and claims to fame are often associated with each man. However, we seldom take time to reflect on the achievements of the President's right hand man… or woman. That's why in honor of Michelle Obama's birthday on January 17, we wanted to pay tribute to the First Ladies throughout history by noting their influence in the home and their groundbreaking moments.

Ranging from the first First Lady to vote for her husband in the presidential election or the first First Lady to earn a graduate degree, the accomplishments of these women are undoubtedly noteworthy. Without their strength, perseverance and dedication to their husband and his term, our nation would not be what it is today. So whether it be Abigail Adams from the 18th century or the birthday girl Michelle Obama herself, we believe the First Ladies of the United States definitely deserve a shout out.
