Forgetting to Ask About Allergies or Diet: If you're having a dinner party, be sure to send out the invite with a request for your guests to report any allergy or dietary restrictions. That way everyone can enjoy the wonderful meal you've prepared!

Not Setting Timeframes: Make sure you set clear timetables for your eating and gift opening plans.

Hide Embarrassing Items in Your Home: Do not leave things laying out that guests really don’t want to see. Your bathroom and powder room are good places to start. Look around for potentially embarrassing items, and put them away.

Don't Get Angry With Guests: Stay calm. Throwing a party can be very enjoyable. Approach the situation in the simpliest way possible to ease tension. If you need to, ask for help and try not to let your guests think you're upset.

Don't Make the Music Too Loud: If you're going to play music, make sure it's at a reasonable decibel. You want your guests to actually be able to have a conversation!

Don’t Assume Your Guests Will Be Comfortable With Your Home: Not everyone feels completely comfortable opening cabinets to look for something they need. For overnight guests, don't forget to place towels and clean sheets in their room.

Don't Invite All Strangers To a Party: No one wants to stand around a party and not feel comfortable conversing with others. Invite people who know each other, or who they are familiar with. If you do invite all strangers, be sure to provide plenty of alcohol!

Share Your Food: Do not cook something for yourself without offering to share. While no one expects you to cook a gourmet meal three times a day when you entertain hous eguests, you shouldn’t prepare something special just for yourself, and tell the guests to fend for themselves.

Not Being Appreciative: Thank people for helping you set up or prepare. Don't forget to also thank them for coming when you say your goodbyes. Finally, if your guest brought a gift, be sure to thank them again as they're leaving.

Not Cleaning the Hidden Dirt in Bathroom or Kitchen: We all know that feeling when you find hidden grime after you just got done putting all of your cleaning supplies away. When you're finished, walk away for a few minutes and come back with a fresh eye. You'll see stuff you missed right away!
