The American flag is one of the strongest and most well-known symbols of the United States of America. The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of our country, while the 13 stripes represent the 13 original British Colonies. Figuratively, our flag is an icon of independence, unity and hope for the future.
Though many Americans are aware of the meaning behind the flag, most do not know the rules and regulations that are expected to accompany the display of our nation's flag. On June 14, 1923, the National Flag Code was established with a list of advisory rules to be taken into consideration in regards to the flag.
View our slideshow above to discover a list of some of these do's and don'ts that you should know before hanging the American flag.
