Plant of the Week: Dracula Vampira

With Halloween right around the corner, the Dracula vampira, is an obvious choice for our plant of the week.  Despite its name's association with a terrifying supernatural being, the Dracula vampira is actually a beautiful and delicate orchid.  Like other plants in the Dracula genus, they are named for the two long sepals that hang down, similar to two fangs. They thrive only in locations of high elevation that are dark and damp.  If this orchid still sounds a little scary, don't worry, you won't be running into these plants anytime soon.  They can only be found in the South American country of Ecuador, on the slopes of Mount Pichincha.
