The early twenties begins with the somewhat rocky transition to the real world. Graduation? Check. Job? Check. Lavish living? Not quite yet. Missing the easy college living is par for the course. Moving out of that childhood bedroom and in with roommates is the first step to be able to becoming who you are and embracing your first home.
Organization & Cleaning
It's easy to want to take college mementos with you which can lead to clutter. Pick the top 3 items you cannot live without, and leave the rest behind.
There never seems to be enough closet space, so invest in items like skinny hangers, a hanging shoe rack and jewelry container.
Remember, the foot of your bed should always be closest to the door. This can save you hours on deciding which corner to place the bed in.
Throwing your first housewarming party is somewhat of a right of passage and small, casual gatherings are the key to having fun. Make sure to coordinate with roommates to ensure party expectations are properly communicated. Provide easy snacks like popcorn and chips that won't stain your floor. Only serve clear liquids - we don't want red wine on the carpet. The landlord won't be happy!
Keep it simple: ensure you have the bare basics on hand to be ready to clean, eat, and entertain in your first pad.
